EXPLORATION GEOCHEMISTRY BIBLIOGRAPHY by E.C. Grunsky, L.G. Closs, and D. Jakobsen This latest version of the Exploration Geochemistry Bibliography is dedicated to Herbert E. Hawkes. Through his foresight and dedication the bibliographic compilations were taken on by The Association of Exploration Geochemists (AEG). The first Exploration Geochemistry Bibliography was compiled in 1972 and issued to all members in good standing of The AEG as Special Volume N0. 1. In the ensuing years this bibliography was expanded through supplements and additional Special Volumes (5 and 11). All this was done through the continuing efforts of Herbert E. Hawkes and the members of the Bibliography Committee of the AEG, currently led by Graham Closs. The purpose and utility of bibliographies have been succinctly described by Herb in his introduction to Special Volume 11 and bears repeating here: "A bibliography is a kind of cemetery. Citations row on row are lined up much like grave stones. The principal difference in the two is that in scientific literature the dead bodies are interred in libraries rather than in the ground. Just as with people-cemeteries, bibliographies provide the genealogists of science with the means of tracing the history of development of scientific ideas and of the personalities who contributed." The Association has an ongoing commitment to continue the efforts of Herbert E. Hawks in pursuing and updating exploration geochemistry references. The Association will continue to do this through quarterly issues of EXPLORE and through periodic updates of this digital bibliography database. It is hoped that the efforts of Herbert Hawkes and Graham Closs will be rewarded by the frequent use of this bibliography for all those involved in exploration geochemistry. A compilation of this size will provide a wide array of papers relevant to research and exploration programs. This diskette represents a departure in the usual format of publication of the bibliography by presenting it digitally rather than published "hard copy". We hope that this format will prove to be more useful to our members as we move forward into the electronic age. All the original bibliographic references compiled by Herbert E. Hawkes are contained on the diskette as well as references from 1985 through 1994, over 11,000 in all. We realize that there may be inadvertent typographic errors or errors of omission.
